Central Heating System Repair
Central Heating System Engineers
When central heating problems crop up, particularly in the autumn and winter, you need an engineer on site ASAP. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your boiler, radiators, or pipework that’s causing a problem… it needs fixing fast. At Grand Union Plumbing & Heating, we understand how important it is for central heating system repair work to be carried out quickly and effectively, and we’re very familiar with the many problems that can arise.
Common Central Heating System Repair Examples
Radiators have cold patches
The repair required is often suggested by where the cold patch is. If your radiator is cold at the top, this is likely to be trapped air and the radiator needs bleeding. However, if it is cold in the middle or at the bottom, this is often caused by a build up of scale or rust etc. or something blocking the flow of water; either way might require flushing through. It’s worth noting that if your radiators on one floor are hot, but on another floor are cold, this again suggests a blockage. However, if they’re cold on the top floor, this could also be to do with boiler pressure, and if they’re cold on the bottom floor, this could be to do with the pump.
Boiler problems
Typical boiler issues include:
- You have hot water but no heating
- You have heating but no hot water
- You have neither heat nor hot water
- Your boiler is leaking
- Your boiler is making strange noises such as bubbling, hissing, or banging
- Your boiler won’t ignite
- Your boiler switches off too soon
- Your boiler pressure is low
Leaking pipes
When you have a leaking pipe, sometimes it is as simple as tightening something up. However, that sounds easier than it can be in reality, for joints etc. get stuck and you risk damaging the pipework. Often, additional sealant is required as well or the leaky pipe actually needs to be replaced. So unless you’re totally confident in what you’re doing, it’s best to give us a ring so we can have a look.
Water tank overflow problems
System and regular boilers get their water from a tank, usually stored in the loft. If the ballcock becomes faulty or jams, this can cause an overflow and may mean the ballcock needs replacing.
